The University of Tirana, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Department of Greek Language, has successfully implemented the updated course Translation Technology during the Spring Semester of the 2025–2026 academic year as part of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) project DiLanEdu-WB – Digital Transformation in Language Study and Education of the Western Balkans.

The course was revised within Work Package 2 – Curriculum Development, with the aim of modernizing translation education and strengthening students’ digital competences through the integration of innovative translation technologies and AI-assisted language tools. The updated curriculum was developed in accordance with the objectives of the DiLanEdu-WB project and the European Digital Competence Framework (DigComp), ensuring that students acquire the digital and professional skills required by today’s translation industry.

Throughout the course, students participated in a series of practical laboratory sessions and technology-enhanced learning activities using professional translation technologies, including SDL Trados Studio, MultiTerm, MateCat, Phrase/Memsource, DeepL, Google Translate, and ChatGPT. These activities enabled students to develop competences in translation memory management, terminology management, machine translation, post-editing, quality assurance procedures, and the responsible use of AI-assisted translation technologies.

The implementation adopted a student-centred and practice-oriented teaching methodology, combining theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises, collaborative learning, authentic translation projects, and technology-supported assignments. This approach provided students with valuable experience in professional translation workflows while enhancing their digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

The successful implementation of the updated course demonstrates the University of Tirana’s commitment to curriculum modernization, digital transformation, and innovation in higher education. It also contributes directly to the objectives of the DiLanEdu-WB project by promoting contemporary teaching practices and preparing future translators for the technological demands of an evolving multilingual and digital working environment.

The revised course has now been integrated into the study programme and will continue to support the development of digitally skilled graduates, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the project’s outcomes and contributing to the continuous modernization of language education at the University of Tirana.
